Essential for any surf session, wax and basecoat cannot be neglected (unless you have pads on the tail and front of your board, and even then...). To avoid slipping on your board, the wax must be well applied, clean and adapted to the temperature of the water in which you are going to surf!
Indeed; wax is generally available in 4 temperatures or densities to be perfectly adapted to the water temperature: COLD (cold waters), COOL (temperate waters), WARM (warm waters), TROPICAL (tropical waters). The colder the water, the softer and "stickier" the wax, the hotter the water, the harder the wax, this prevents the wax from melting in the sun or in too hot water. In fact, cold waters tend to harden the wax and hot waters tend to soften the wax on your surfboards.
We offer a wide selection of waxes and wax brands, including: Sex Wax , Sticky Bumps and Stay Covered.
The Basecoat (optional but recommended especially in summer or in warm waters) is used as the first layer on your board: it is a first layer of very hard wax (a bit like tropical wax) which allows you to always have a layer of wax that does not come off on the board and apply your usual wax on top. This first layer facilitates the application of successive layers of wax and allows you to create pretty “Bumps” on your board (small balls of wax perfectly applied which create a natural wax grip). We offer Base coat from Stay Covered and Sticky Bumps in particular or recommend using Tropical wax from Sex Wax .
The waxes offered at Woodstockshop are designed to be durable and water resistant, which allowsprolonged use without having to apply them too frequently. They are made from quality materials that guarantee reliable and consistent grip, even in the most difficult conditions. Don't hesitate to apply wax as soon as you notice that your deck is slipping or missing wax, try to regularly recreate nice bumps on your board with wax at the right temperature and your sessions will only be better!
Don't let poor grip compromise your surfing enjoyment. Discover our wide selection of quality wax and basecoat on Woodstockshop now and make sure you have the best grip on your board for an unforgettable surfing experience.
Little tips: It is generally recommended to wax soft wax over hard wax (for example: COLD wax over COOL Wax) while the opposite is not recommended. It's a question of adhesion, hard wax does not adhere well to soft wax while soft wax adheres well to hard wax. When winter arrives, it is therefore easy to continue waxing your board with increasingly soft wax, as the water cools in the winter. When summer arrives it is advisable to de-wax everything and re-wax well with basecoat and summer wax because the hard summer wax will not apply well to your old soft winter wax.
